With a new network of colleagues at Syracuse University and devoted study to brass, woodwind, strings, and percussion instruments, conducting, and music research - he has certainly diversified his musical palette. At Syracuse University he takes part in various orchestral ensembles on the cello. Outside of Driftwood, Arcuri has been growing as a cellist. It has also nurtured him as a singer songwriter, collaborator, and recording artist. Working intimately with Driftwood for 11 years has exposed him to the music industry. Joey has sustained a colorful freelance career while maintaining long standing partnership with Driftwood.
He has performed with reputable names such as Melinda Doolittle, Clay Aiken, Jane Monheit, Cheryl Bentyne, Tara Nevins, Jeb Puryear, and Hank Roberts. As a performer, Joey has worked in the styles of classical, jazz, musical theater, and popular music. He will be back in 2022 for the high school and middle school divisions. Joey taught at Ithaca College’s Summer Music Academy in 2021. He has also worked as a clinician through various school districts. He will graduate in the Spring of 2023! Joey has held a music studio for private instruction for over 10 years. Arcuri is currently working towards a master’s degree at Syracuse University, where he is studying music education. Completing his Bachelor of Music at Ithaca College in 2009, Arcuri achieved a classical bass performance degree with Dr. At SUNY Purchase’s Conservatory of Music, Joey studied with Timothy Cobb, the current principal bassist of the New York Philharmonic.
Joey Arcuri completed his undergraduate performance degree at two institutions. Having proficiency on electric bass, cello, and guitar keeps him diverse in his creative pursuits and more widely encompassing in his teaching. As a double bass primary, Arcuri stays in high demand throughout a variety of musical genres. His performance experience spans broadly from musical theater, orchestras, jazz ensembles, and traveling the US with 5-piece Americana band, Driftwood.
